A workshop on the reasons for the marginalization of the father’s role in modern societies was organized by the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Dentistry, as part of the national plan for the department. The workshop, presented by Dr. Badriya Nasser Abd, included a brief explanation of the father’s status in Islam and his leadership role in the family, based on the saying of our noble Prophet, peace be upon him: “Every one of you is a shepherd, and every one of you is responsible for his flock.”

The workshop addressed the main reasons and factors that have prevented fathers from fulfilling their duties towards their families and children. Among the most prominent of these reasons are their preoccupation with providing for the basic needs of life, their ignorance of the importance of their presence in the family environment, or their belief that their role is limited to securing housing, clothing, and other matters.

The workshop concluded with a call to fathers, urging them to recognize and activate their role in their children’s lives, which does not end at a certain stage but extends through various stages of their children’s lives, and to be good and shining role models for them.
